Celebrating the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination
To commemorate the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, migrants under IOM care organized an activity series called SAGE: Sports, Arts, and Games Exhibition, in May and June 2014. SAGE was designed to promote a sense of belonging and social connectivity, as well as, to bolster the use of recreational activities as a positive coping mechanism for displaced populations of different nationalities in Indonesia.
Over 50 migrants of various nationalities competed in 5 events: chess, ludo board game, carom, futsal, and table tennis.
A representative of the SAGE organizing committee had this to say after a successful 2-month SAGE run:
“SAGE was enriching and rewarding, a wonderful opportunity to cross over cultural boundaries among people of different nations and religions towards multi-racial connections and friendships”.
